René Anthony Rougeau (born March 25, 1986 in Sacramento, California) is an American professional basketball player. He attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he starred in his four seasons with the Runnin' Rebels.
After going Undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft, Rougeau spent time in the Clayton Showtime in the ABA and the Nevada Pride in the IBL before travelling to New Zealand.
Rougeau signed with New Zealand National Basketball League franchise, the Southland Sharks.[1] Rougeau has spent most of his time in Invercargill as a small forward but believes if he is ever to make the NBA he will have to develop his skills as a shooting guard. In the NZNBL Rougeau averages 53 percent shooting at 15.8 ppg, he is tenth in the league in rebounds per game with 7.8 rpg, he leads the league in steals with 3.9 spg and he is sixth in the league in blocks per game with 1.2 bpg.[2] Rougeau has also received two player of the week awards[3] and has been in the top five player rankings since the start of the competition.[4]
Rougeau is also a devout Christian and credits God for his abilities.
